Call time

At an event, call time is the time you must be on site, checked in and ready to work. It's usually well before guests arrive.

Also called: report time, crew call

Call time vs start time

Call time is when you report, not when the event starts. For a 7 pm dinner, servers might have a 4 pm call to set tables and join the pre-shift meeting. In most cases your paid time starts at call time.

Should you arrive before call time?

Yes. Aim for 10 to 15 minutes early so you can park, find the staff entrance, check in and change. Being on time for call time means ready to work, not walking in the door.

Why crews get different call times

Setup crew and stagehands are often called hours before floor staff, because the load-in has to finish before tables can be set. Bartenders are often called before servers when the bar needs stocking.
